You will go through the entire design and engineering process, not just assemble a pre-made kit.

This video shows an example of what it might like.

Build 1) Reverse Engineering - *Speed & Torque Testing*

Week #1 (Jan 28 to Feb 1) 1st Class

Summary

Engineers often need to work backwards; they start with an existing product they want to use and figure out how it was made, so they can redesign it.

You're going to reverse engineer an RC toy car!

This week you will begin taking your RC car's remote apart. We will remove the antenna to see what happens. Then we will test the speed and torque of your car. You will eventually turn this car into you stunt robot!

We need to reverse engineer the old gear box to help us understand how gears work, and count how many teeth each gear has.

Summary

We need to redesign the gearbox to make it work with only two wheels and fit inside our robot.
We will also look at the prototype and discuss changes we need to make.

Summary

This week you will use the parts from your old car to assemble the new gearbox we designed last week.
If you finished designing your wheels last week you will also assemble and paint your new wheels.

Summary

We will have time to finish up anything we need to make sure our robot is perfect, then try him out! If you want you can even try lighting his wheels on fire!
You will also have a chance to show your robot off to the rest of the class.
